The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), part of the State University of New York and an internationally renowned college of art, design, business and technology with a strong emphasis on liberal arts, invites nominations and applications for a Head Table Tennis Coach.

Job Description:

The Head Table Tennis Coach will report to the Athletic Director, and will be responsible for managing all facets of the Women's and Men's Table Tennis Teams in accordance with NCTTA, NE Regional, NYC Downtown Division and FIT Athletics rules and regulations.

Responsibilities & Essential Functions:



  • Assuming full responsibility for student-athlete welfare and team operations during all team-related proceedings.
  • Upholding all applicable NCTTA, NE Region, NYC Downtown Division and FIT Athletics rules and regulations.
  • Recommending appointment/retention of Assistant Coach and Team Manager; providing supervision for these staff members.
  • Recruiting quality student-athletes based on academic goals as well as athletic ability.
  • Scheduling, planning and organizing practice sessions.
  • Scheduling all regular season matches and tournaments; completing team registration for all post-season matches and tournaments.
  • Entering team members for scheduled matches as required by tournament directors in advance of deadline.
  • Planning and coordinating team travel arrangements.
  • Attending all practices, matches and tournaments; providing team and individual supervision and skill development.
  • Managing team budget and keeping strict records of all expenditures and receipts.
  • Recording and reporting results; providing a synopsis of matches and tournaments for promotion on website and department social media.
  • Assuming full responsibility for monitoring and posting content on Table Tennis Team social media accounts; keeping fans and prospective athletes engaged with creative content year round.
  • Reviewing equipment / apparel inventory and preparing orders.
  • Promoting the team by participating in various events / activities on and off campus
  • Monitoring team academic success and personal growth in team members.
  • Attending required coaches meetings and completing trainings as assigned.
  • Some driving may be required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree required.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Four years of successful head coaching experience in an academic setting.


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:



  • Must obtain Adult CPR / AED and Basic First Aid certification prior to the time of appointment.
  • Outstanding managerial, organizational, technological and verbal/written communication skills.
  • History of success in the areas of recruiting, player development and fostering holistic success in team members.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Availability for Thursday evening practices and weekend matches and tournaments.
  • Availability for occasional overnight trips, especially postseason matches and tournaments.
  • Valid driver's license in good standing.


Additional Information:

Review of applications will begin immediately until the position is filled. Successful completion of a background check is required for appointment to this position once an offer has been made.

Salary:

Stipend: $6,190 - $12,500 per annum (based on experience, sport qualifications and budgetary allowance)

Work Schedule:

Days/Hours: Thursdays 6:30pm - 9pm, in-person, weekend meets (Saturdays and Sundays) and tournaments; work schedule subject to change based on needs of the department.

Terms: FIT coaching positions consist of at-will appointments that last for one fiscal year, and do not carry any medical, annual leave, sick leave, or other fringe benefit entitlement.
