Collaborating closely with the EVP of Business Development and Strategy, the Sr Director/VP of Strategic Projects will play a crucial role in identifying, developing, and driving initiatives that create competitive advantage for Macmillan. The Sr Dir/VP, Strategic Projects will head the Project Management Office (PMO), drive the project prioritization process, manage the strategic project portfolio, and execute high-value strategic initiatives.

What you'll do:




  • Collaborate with the EVP of Business Development and Strategy to identify new opportunities for growth and innovation.


  • Collaborate in the direction of high-value strategic initiatives from conception through to execution, ensuring they meet the objectives that will create a competitive advantage for the company. Serve as a key liaison between various stakeholders, including editorial, marketing, IT, finance, and external partners, to ensure clear communication, alignment of goals, and cohesive project progression.
  • Lead the PMO, ensuring that project governance is effective and fostering a culture of excellence within the PMO, promoting best practices in
    project management and strategic execution. Champion the development of a strong project management culture, emphasizing accountability, transparency, and excellence in project execution across the organization. Utilize expertise in project management methodologies to train and assist project managers in applying these practices to their projects, enhancing efficiency and outcomes.

  • Manage a comprehensive project portfolio and run the project prioritization process ensuring efficient allocation of resources across projects to maximize value and strategic alignment.


  • Foster a collaborative environment where all team members feel supported in their roles and are encouraged to share insights, challenges, and successes to promote continuous learning and improvement across the organization.

  • Personally drive high-value strategic projects with senior level business partners.




What you'll bring:



  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in the publishing industry.
  • Proven skills and experience in the discipline of project management, including leadership role within project management or strategic planning ideally within the publishing industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage large, complex projects and initiatives from inception to completion.
  • Strong strategic thinking, planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with a proven track record of driving growth and competitive advantage.

  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and mobilize teams toward a common goal.



  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, experience in managing diverse teams, and the ability to build high performance teams



  • The capacity to drive team cohesion, navigate complex team dynamics, and foster a supportive and solution-oriented environment.



  • Proficiency in project management software and tools.


  • PMP preferred but not required


This role will have an annual salary of $150,000 - $185,000.
